Terms
Plain terms for a personal website: what it is, what it is not, and how its writing and photographs may be used.
About these terms
This website, zohaibakhtar.com, is the personal website of Zohaib Akhtar. By using it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. How the site handles information about you is described separately, under Privacy.
Not medical advice
I am a physician, but nothing on this site is medical advice, and reading it, writing to me or subscribing does not create a doctor and patient relationship. The essays and case studies share experience, research and opinion about health and health care in general. They are not about your health, and they cannot take your circumstances into account.
For any question about your own health, or someone else's, speak to a qualified professional who can examine and advise you. In an emergency, call your local emergency number at once. Please do not send medical details or ask for medical advice through this site; I cannot answer them.
Not legal, financial or investment advice
Nothing on this site is legal advice, including anything about immigration, or financial, tax or investment advice. For decisions about your case or your money, consult a qualified professional.
Nothing on this site is an offer to sell, or an invitation to buy, shares or any other investment in Chroneme, OpenCura or any other company. What I write about companies, products, markets or the future is my opinion and expectation at the time of writing. It may turn out to be wrong, and it should not be relied on for any investment decision.
My views are my own
The opinions on this site are mine. They are not the views of any employer, university, hospital, company or organization I am or have been part of, including Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, Northwestern Kellogg, Chroneme and OpenCura, and those organizations have not reviewed or endorsed them, unless a page says otherwise. Mentioning a company, product or person does not mean they endorse this site, or that I endorse them.
Case studies
The case studies describe work I took part in, at the time it was done. Results came from the effort of many people and teams, and from the conditions at the time; they do not promise similar results elsewhere. No patient can be identified from them: any patient information has been removed or changed.
Accuracy
I write carefully and cite sources where I can, but I cannot promise that everything here is complete, accurate or up to date. Medicine, technology and the law change, and pages may not be updated. The site is provided as it is, without promises or warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.
Translations
This site is written in English. Pages in other languages are translations of the English, made with the help of AI and checked carefully, but a translation can still miss a nuance, sound different from what I meant, or contain mistakes.
Any mistake or awkward wording in a translation is unintended. Please read it generously, and do not take a difference in tone or meaning as intended or personal. If something reads wrongly, or might offend, I would be grateful if you told me at za@jhu.edu so I can correct it. If a translation and the English differ, the English version is the one that counts. Every translated page links to its English original.
Some pages, such as essays not yet translated, are shown in English, and the page says so.
Writing and photographs
Unless a page says otherwise, the writing and photographs on this site are my work and are © Zohaib Akhtar. You are welcome to:
- link to any page;
- quote short passages, with my name and a link to the page;
- share pages anywhere, by link or through your device's share menu.
Please ask before republishing a full essay or case study, translating it, or using it commercially.
Photographs may not be copied, downloaded for reuse, edited, or used anywhere else, including to train AI systems, without my written permission. People shown in photographs appear with their consent. If you appear in a photograph and would like it removed, email me and I will take it down.
Search engines and AI assistants are welcome to read, index and cite the site's published text, and to learn from it, as the site's robots.txt and llms.txt files allow. When they draw on a page, I ask that they name me and link to it, and that they do not present my views as more, or other, than what the page says. This permission does not cover photographs, and it does not make anyone else's use of my writing endorsed by me.
Your messages and ideas
When you write to me, please do not send anything confidential, such as unpublished inventions, business plans or trade secrets, unless we have first agreed in writing to keep it confidential. Sending a message does not create any confidentiality, partnership, employment, advisory or professional relationship, and I am not obliged to reply, to act on it, or to keep it secret.
If you send ideas or suggestions, you agree that I am free to use any general ideas in them, without payment or obligation to you. This does not give me ownership of your work. It means that receiving an idea does not stop me, or any company I am part of, from working on similar ideas, which we may already be doing.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are free. You can change what you receive or unsubscribe at any time from any email. I may change or stop any update, or remove a subscription that is being misused.
SHIFT, the game
SHIFT is a free game for fun. It is not a medical, psychological or cognitive test. The name you save to the leaderboard is shown publicly. It must not be offensive, misleading, or someone else's name, and must not advertise anything. I may hide any name or score, including scores that appear not to be fair play, and I may reset the leaderboard or change the game at any time.
Using the site fairly
Please do not:
- try to break into, overload or disrupt the site, or get around its security or limits;
- send spam, harmful files or automated messages through its forms;
- copy the site in bulk to republish it, or to present it as your own;
- pretend to be me or to speak for me, or suggest that I endorse you.
Reading and indexing by search engines and AI assistants, as described above, is welcome.
Links to other websites
The site links to other websites, including Chroneme, OpenCura and the sources an essay cites. They are provided for convenience. I do not control them and am not responsible for their content, their availability or their privacy practices.
Responsibility
To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using this site, relying on its content, or being unable to use it, including indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits any responsibility that cannot be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.
Changes to the site and to these terms
I may change, pause or remove any part of the site at any time. I may also update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and using the site after a change means you accept it. If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
